Rib Rats (M Tp) Patch
RIB Rats Patch
The RIB Rats Patch pays tribute to the members of M Troop and the specialised maritime capability they built within the Special Air Service Regiment.
The need for dedicated Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to support SASR operations was identified during the 1980s. After extensive evaluation of various vessels, a unique capability was established, bringing together operators from the Royal Australian Corps of Transport and the SASR. This culminated in the raising of Marine 'M' Troop in 1993.
M Troop became a critical element of Australia's Special Operations capability, supporting Counter Terrorism operations and maintaining the ability to rapidly project force in defence of Australia and on global no-fail missions. Over the years, the troop operated a diverse fleet including Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats, the Coral Snake, Regional Patrol Craft, and the iconic Noosa Marine "Yellow Shark Cats".
The RIB Rats were the centre of M Troop, their name is synonymous to all that have operated with M Troop and is a reflection on the unique capability that was built and admired by other coalition Special Forces Partners.
