2 Sqn Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) holds a significant place in the history of Australia’s elite special forces. Known for exceptional skill, adaptability, and specialised expertise, 2 Sqn played a vital role in the Regiment’s operations, including counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, and direct action missions.

Troop Roles:
2 Sqn was composed of highly specialised troops, each with distinct roles:

  • E Tp (Water Troop): Specialists in maritime operations, including combat diving, amphibious assaults and waterborne reconnaissance.
  • F Tp (Vehicle Mounted or VM Troop): Experts in long-range mobility, using vehicles to conduct deep infiltration, reconnaissance and logistical support in remote or hostile environments.
  • G Tp (Air Troop): Masters of airborne operations, including parachute insertion, aerial reconnaissance and fast-rope techniques, enabling swift and precise infiltration into operational areas.

These troops brought unparalleled versatility and effectiveness to the Regiment, embodying the SASR’s motto, “Who Dares Wins.”

History:
2 Sqn, SASR was raised on SEP 4 1964

The Sqn has been disestablished Three times in its history:

  • First disbandment: NOV 1971, due to a restructuring of the SASR’s operational capabilities. It was later re-raised in JAN 1982
  • Second disbandment: JAN 2006, as part of a broader reorganisation of the Regiment. It was later reraised in mid 2008
  • Removed From The Order Of Battle: NOV 2020

Despite this, the legacy of 2 SQN and the contributions of its troops remain an integral part of SASR history.

This rich history and the specialised roles of its troops make the 2 SQN Coin Set a truly meaningful tribute to one of the SASR’s most iconic Squadrons.
