The Chicken Stranglers name has floated around the Regiment for decades — part survival course, part rugby folklore, and 100 percent SAS. However it started, it stuck.

'On a selection course the troops were given a live chook to do what ever with. Some ate; some released; some brought the birds back. Then when we entered a team in the Golden Oldies Rugby in the early 90’s our jumpers had the chicken Stranglers logo on them'. - Terry O'Farrell
