Commemorating 25 years since the beginning of Australia's involvement in Afghanistan, this limited-edition challenge coin honours the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) throughout Australia's longest war.

From 2001 to 2021, Australian personnel served across a broad range of combat, training, mentoring, reconstruction and support operations. This coin recognises the collective contribution of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force, and remembers the 41 Australians who lost their lives during the conflict.

Features a pair of worn military boots and identification tags resting on the rugged Afghan terrain, with a military helicopter flying over the mountains at sunset.

The design symbolises the service, endurance and sacrifice of Australian personnel, framed by the inscription OPERATION SLIPPER – AFGHANISTAN and the commemorative dates 2001–2026.

Reverse | Lest We Forget

Features a distressed Australian national flag sweeping across the mountainous Afghan landscape, symbolising Australia's involvement in the conflict.

Two red remembrance poppies represent remembrance and sacrifice, accompanied by the inscriptions OPERATION SLIPPER 25 YEARS and LEST WE FORGET.
