Z Special Unit Stubby Cooler
81 missions. Few knew. None forgotten.
During WWII, Z Special Unit operated in secrecy as part of Special Operations Australia. These were the men sent first — behind enemy lines in the Pacific and Asia.
This stubby cooler features the Z Special Unit insignia alongside the map of the famous MV Krait journey — the vessel used in Operation Jaywick, one of the boldest covert raids in Australian history.
In 1943, disguised as Malay fishermen, 14 operatives sailed the wooden-hulled Krait from Exmouth, WA, across thousands of miles to Singapore. From there, they launched folboats under cover of darkness and planted limpet mines that destroyed or damaged seven Japanese ships — over 39,000 tons in total.
The cooler is a practical tribute to their courage, endurance, and ingenuity.
All proceeds directly support the SAS Historical Collection at Campbell Barracks, preserving the history of those who dared to go first.
