In early 2021 The SASHF capitalised on an opportunity through Grand Cru Cellars to purchase two unreleased 'Cougar Directors Cut' barrels, resulting in the crafting of this Standard Edition batch.

Military Working Dog SO-005 KUGA, DM

Kuga was a fawn Belgian Malinois (with a touch of Tervuen longer hair). He was born 23 April 2007 and his Service Number was SO-005.

Kuga served with the ADF on operations during two tours of Afghanistan with Australian Special Forces.

Kuga only ever had one Handler: 'CPL J', whom Kuga protected from harm on numerous occasions.

While on operations, Kuga was shot five times: twice a the ear, once in the toe, once in the cheek (exiting through his neck) and once in the chest (exiting the shoulder and broke his upper-left leg). Topping it off, he also received shrapnel wounds to his lower spine.

Kuga was awarded the War Dog Operational Medal - Clasp Afghanistan and the Canine Service Medal. For his actions in combat, Kuga was posthumously awarded the Dicken Medal.

His favourite treats were chocolate crème biscuits. his favourite toy was a red knobbly chew ball and his favourite play activity was to wrestle with his Handler.

Kuga passed away in Perth on 24 July 2012, as a result of his war related service.

Many Australian soldiers owe their lives to Kuga.

Kuga’s ashes are interred in a Military Dog Memorial, adjacent to "The Rock which is at Campbell Barracks, Swanbourne, Western Australia.
