K Troop (freefall) 3 Sqn Ten Man Mechano Crest

Originally a vinyl patch produced locally in Perth 1986 and worn on the right shoulder of the parachute jumpsuit by K Troop, 3 Squadron. It is a deliberate parody of the formal parachute crests of the time.
There are fourteen figures instead of ten, no one is touching, and one figure is facing the wrong direction. The design reflects the humour that existed alongside the seriousness of freefall training.
Only 50 original patches were made. The version released today is a woven reproduction with velcro backing.

The insignia is referenced as:

  •  #349 in the book 'Anzac Elite – The Airborne and Special Forces Insignia of Australia and New Zealand ' by Cliff Lord and Julian Tennant (2000), and;
  • #298 in the book  'Australian Airborne - The History and Insignia of Australian Military Parachuting' by J O'Connor.

A brilliant collectors piece with a unique story!
